We Cannot Do This Alone – MoWaNa Safe Space Collaboration

This month I am introducing some really special smaller and deeper workshops and will be working with a local charity, MoWaNa Safe Space that serves to be a refuge for people in crisis and suicide prevention support. This is very close to my heart and i am so honoured to be sharing sound in the greater community. All of us in some way, either directly, or indirectly, have experienced trauma, loss and crisis.

WE CAN NOT DO THIS ALONE. Having the courage to stand up and get help is not easy. And that “help” might not always be what we want it to be. BUT we are not alone.

As I prepare to take the ashes of my mother to her birth home I feel the grief of her loss. A loss that could have been prevented with help. In the midst of writing this i also received a phone call with news of the loss of a dear friend who took his own life this week. I weep….deep in my heart this sense of helplessness and I don’t know where to put this sadness. So I share it, the only thing I know to do. I write these words to a small group of people who may read it and extend my deepest respect to the people who have been lost, the people who feel the loss and the greatness of these tragedies.

I come home to the sound, a place of refuge. A space that can be inhabited and is available. A space where you can be held when nothing makes sense and there is nowhere else to put your feelings and confusion.

MoWaNa SAFE SPACE: For the community, by the community

It is with great honour that I will be sharing the practice of Sound and Vibration with the community. MoWaNa Northern Beaches Safe Space is a non-clinical drop in style place available to anybody who is feeling anxious, distressed, suicidal, lonely, overwhelmed, scared and / or depressed. Our volunteer “peer care companions” have lived experience and have been trained to help you in your time of need. We will welcome you, hold space for you, listen and NOT judge you. We will help you find warm connections to other appropriate and reliable supports if that’s what you need. We have a trauma informed No wrong door approach. All is confidential and can be anonymous if you prefer.  You are welcome to come back time and time again.

Currently you can drop in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights between 5 and 9pm; Wednesday, Thursday, Friday for Coffee with Kindness (Cafe open) 8.30-11am; 2nd Tuesday of each month for LGBQTIA+ Safe Space 6-8pm at The Mind Cafe, 1346 Pittwater Road, Narrabeen.  Ph: 0478 007 722.
